CU-WISE Presents: Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon

CU-WISE presents an event like no other. The Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon is an evening dedicated to learning how to edit Wikipedia and increase the content about female scientists to the list of notable historical figures. The Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon is set to take place on Thursday September 20th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m in room 5301 of the Canal Building. We will provide the instructions required to learn how to edit Wikipedia as well as research material about female scientists. The event is free but feel free to bring a snack to share!

On Wednesday September 5, 2012 CU-WISE will be participating in this year's Carleton Expo that is taking place at the Raven's Nest from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.. We're Having a Picnic!

Before the summer BBQ season is over, please join us for a picnic at Mooney's Bay! The CU-WISE Summer Picnic is intended to bring together WISE members in the Ottawa area to network with their women in science and engineering peers. Friends, family and pets are also welcomed.

We will be providing burgers (with the options of beef, chicken or veggie) as well as side salads and beverages. There will also be a fun outdoor activity but please feel free to bring additional outdoor games. Inspiring Women Series: Anne Coyle, founder of Bright Red Handle

Hello ladies (and assorted gents)!

uOttawaWISE has another awesome speaker lined up – this time, it’s Anne Coyle, founder of Bright Red Handle, communication specialists for the IT industry. Anne has a diverse background in math, computer science, and communications. As part of our Inspiring Women Series she’ll be sharing with us what she wishes she had known before starting her business, including: how to get repeat business, how to avoid the “I’m not charging enough” trap, and the pros and cons of working from home.

Join us Monday, November 21st in STE5084 (conference room) at 6 pm for what will undoubtedly be another awesome evening. As usual, tasty dinner and refreshments will be provided.

Speaker Bio
Cate has a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Edinburgh but escaped from graduate school to be a Software Engineer at Google. She used to be an international hobo, teaching programming in the US and in Shanghai, training in martial arts in China, qualifying as a ski instructor in Canada, and aimlessly wandering around Europe. For now, she lives in Kitchener/Waterloo, Canada. She was the Instigator of Awesome at Awesome Ottawa, and is a co-conspirator for Awesome Foundation KW.
